James Stuart, now living in Shrewsbury, returned to his former local time trial course to prove that you can take the man out of Bletchingley but you can't take Bletchingley out of the man.

Finishing a minute-and-a-half clear of Dan Gilderthorp – both men on Canyon Aeroad road bikes – Stuart posted an impressively quick time despite uttering on the start line: "I hate this course".

Jon Masters on his TVR-coloured S-Works Tarmac with clip-on tri-bars was third, 15 seconds ahead of ever-improving regular guest Sam Greenwood (Paceline), with Duncan Murdoch a further three seconds back.

Michelle Arthurs-Brennan, fresh from her win in the Robin Buchan memorial open 25 on Sunday, cemented her lead in the women's competition with a very fast ride.

The next event is on the Newdigate circuit on May 16.
