It was a tale of two Dans as the rivalry between Dan Gilderthorp (pictured) and Dan Sullivan resumed at Bletchingley on Tuesday night.

After a night and day of heavy rain the roads had finally been blasted dry by gale-force winds by the time Peter Owen, the first man off, headed up the 'Alpe Bletchingley' into the teeth of the westerly.

Duncan Murdoch took an early lead with 30.31, immediately bettered by Jon Masters with 30.20. Sullivan upped the ante with 28.48 and then waited five minutes to see whether Gilderthorp would be faster. It was too close to call from the roadside, but the timekeeper's stopwatch had Sullivan five seconds faster and therefore the event winner, with Simon Smythe first of the non-Dans on 30.19.

In the women's competition Michelle Arthurs-Brennan scored the maximum 10 points again with 31.42 and now leads overall.

In the men's competition Jon Master is on top with 36 points.
