1904rt is a women’s race team, which has evolved from a Norwood Paragon backed initiative first introduced in 2017.
The project was launched in recognition of the more geographically diverse nature of women’s cycling: the local club model wasn’t providing female racers with the team mates and support which makes racing fun, resulting in an array of clubs featuring just one (often lonely!) female racer.
Our goal is to bring these riders together, and provide female cyclists with the team mates and support required to progress from regional level racing to National series events.
The team is made up of riders from Surrey, Sussex, London and Cambridge – but its club house is firmly based at Reigate’s Maison du Velo, also home to Norwood Paragon. Norwood Paragon remains a strong supporter of the team, alongside sponsors Maison du Velo and InGear Cycles
“Many cycling clubs within Surrey and surrounding counties have strong memberships, but only one or two female racers,” explains founder and manager Michelle Arthurs-Brennan. “The nature of women’s racing means that women often find themselves travelling further for races, and these factors combined can culminate to limit enthusiasm for the sport. 1904rt is about combating that by creating a fun and supportive, but competitive, environment.”
